President Uhuru Kenyatta this Tuesday officially opens a multibillion Cement factory owned by Simba Cement at Salgaa in Rongai Sub County Nakuru.
The factory located along the busy Nakuru to Eldoret highway will open opportunities to several Nakuru residents.
Addressing media prior to the official opening, the factory owner Guru Naredra said that they chose Nakuru due to its geographical location in East Africa as well as the fact of Nakuru's move to becoming a city.
“This is a plus for Nakuru even as it becomes a City,” said Naredra.
According to Naredra, they look forward to being among the first investors of unleashing the potential of Nakuru being and industrial city.
He added that with Nakuru becoming a city there will be more opportunities that come with the same. Naredra calling on the County Government of Nakuru to work on ensuring that there is a conducive environment for businesses.
“The government should work to ensure that there is a conducive environment for businesses,” he said.
On his part, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui lauded the move saying that the factory will provide a source of employment to locals.
According to Kinyanjui, the locals will be selling their raw materials at the factory as well as generating revenue to the National and county governments.
“With the coming up of factories such as this one then it means Nakuru residents will benefit from the same as they will be able to sell their materials at the factory,” said Kinyanjui.
Locals in Nakuru have not been left behind saying that they are hopeful the county will effectively use the generated revenue in improving roads infrastructure as well as build more hospitals.
Ben Macharia-a resident and founder of Friends of Devolution Lobby group say this is a plus for Nakuru residents in terms of revenue generation.
He urged all the mushrooming companies and factories in Nakuru to give locals first priorities when offering jobs. This, the locals say will ensure continuous cash flow among the community surrounding the factory.
