More than ten families are counting losses after a fire razed down their houses at Londiani trading centre in Kericho County.
The 10am fire incident is suspected to have been caused by a burning jiko or a stove from one of the wooden rental houses.
The fire quickly spread to the neighbouring houses due to strong winds.
According to Daniel Osongo, the owner of the rental houses, the affected residents are counting losses amounting to Sh1 million.
“Property estimated to be worth Sh1.2million has been completely destroyed by the fire,” he said.
The Kericho County fire response team is said to have arrived at the scene at around 11am, one hour after the fire broke out.
Residents in the area are now calling upon the county government to consider purchasing a fire engine that will be stationed at Londiani Sub-County. They argued that the move will ensure fire incidents which are common in the area, are tackled within the shortest time possible.
