Four people were on Thursday reported dead following a road accident at Davision area on the Njoro-Mau Narok road.
The accident occurred after the matatu driver lost control after knocking a child who was crossing the road.
The incident was confirmed by Njoro Sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Huka.
“A child aged two and a half years was crossing the road when the matatu which was heading to Njoro town knocked him down. The driver lost control of the vehicle which rolled severally injuring other passengers on board,” Huka told the Standard.
He noted that the kid died on the spot while three passengers died while being taken to hospital.
The accident left four other passengers with serious injuries. The four were taken to a private hospital in Njoro town where they are receiving treatment.
“The driver is critically injured alongside three other passengers who have been taken to Newpoint Hospital in Njoro. We have launched investigations into the matter,” said Huka.
According to area MCA George Kiere, the accident couldn't be avoided as the driver realised the kid was crossing the road when it was too late.
“It appeared as if the driver had not noticed the child who was crossing the road alone. The driver tried to avoid hitting the child but he was too close. The vehicle swerved and hit the child before rolling,” said Kiere.
