The team were on a fact finding mission on the status of the Kenya/Somalia border at Kiunga Border Post, and how it has affected trade and other social economic activities at the border.

The Lamu County Administration led by the Deputy Governor Abdulhakim Aboud Bwana and locals decried the adverse effects emanating from the closure of the border, which security officers say was necessitated by the influx of insecurity cases.

They called on the Committee to push for a heightened security in the area, thus heralding the re-opening of the border, which was once vibrant with a trade balance that greatly favoured the locals.

The Committee whose mandate centres around enhancing integration among the East African States, has been touring border points with an aim of improving relations between communities around the border points, a requisite ingredient for sustainable inter-state development.
