With Deputy President William Ruto having already announced that his bid for presidency is unstoppable, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is also seemingly gradually joining the race.
Joho has since kicked-off what can be translated as an attempt to declare his candidature, the latest one being his recent meeting with retired President Daniel Moi and his son, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
Should the two vie, they will automatically become the main horses in the race that is likely to be snubbed by opposition leader Raila Odinga, who has most likely learnt from his four previous losses and will not want to be humiliated for the fifth time.
And with the two in a race snubbed by Odinga, who doubles up as the Luo Nyanza political kingpin, Joho will obviously beat Ruto to get the most votes in the vote-rich basket.
This is because Ruto remains a hard-sell in the region, courtesy of his many attacks, and insults on the veteran leader whose final say is almost the ultimate stand of the region.
Joho on the other end is a darling of many Luos, thanks to his respect to the former Prime Minister and his self-allocated position as Raila’s guard, telling off whoever attacks the leader, Ruto included.
The main reason for his pending win, however, is that he is Raila’s dephty at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and is, therefore, most likely to get the former Premier’s endorsement.
With Raila’s endorsement, especially in the presidential race, no one can beat him in the lakeside province which brags of four counties, Kisumu being the headquarter.
Also, coming from the Coast, Joho is best placed to address issues of the region which largely depends on fishing, and is better placed to address issues like the water hyacinth menace troubling fishermen and travelers in the Lake Victoria.
Ruto who sits at the helm of the Jubilee Government has been unable to address the problem six years down the line and will, therefore, not be the appropriate president according to the region.
Therefore, Joho will beat Ruto hands down in the Luo region should the two face-off in 2022.
