Addressing journalists in her office on Tuesday, Kimanzi stated that the majority of these criminal acts are committed by close family members.

She stated that such cases are also rampant in boarding schools, and called upon school heads to be vigilant to ensure the safety of students.

"At least every week we have a case of sodomy and it's becoming fashionable. Schools, boarding schools, that's where the problem starts," she said.

She urged parents to ensure they take care of their kids during the December holidays so as to protect them from sex pests.

"Parents are very busy looking for money, they are not parenting yet these kids need special care because they are vulnerable. Parenting means more than providing basic needs for your kid," said Kimanzi.

She confirmed that investigations have been launched into a case where an eight-year-old boy was sodomised by his two brothers, a cousin and five classmates.

"The minor was sodomised by relatives, we did not rescue him but we were able to remove the perpetrators from that environment. According to him, he has been sodomised by five other boys in his school," she said.
