Oginga stunned Kenyans after he decided to reconcile with former President Daniel Torotich Arap Moi before he met his death in 1994.

The two had differed on various issues to do with governance.

At the time of his death, millions of Kenyans had never grasped the benefits of multiparty democracy since Moi ruled with an iron fist.

In his autobiography,' Not Yet Uhuru', Odinga records that he did not agree with the Presidency of both the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Moi.

He felt the two regimes never lived up to the expectations of Kenyans. He always dreamed of a better Kenya and he was ready to do anything including going to prison to ensure that Kenyans are not living like slaves in their own country yet they are resources all over.

In the early ’90s, Odinga emerged as a threat to Moi’s presidency after he decided to co-found Forum for the Restoration of Democracy (FORD).

He was elected the chairman of the party.

The decision of Odinga triggered a series of events that shaped the political landscape of the nation before the end of KANU’s rule.

However, his party Ford split before the 1992 elections and he could only retain his seat in Bondo.
