Tycoons have been put on the spot for allegedly using underhand methods to buy land cheaply from residents of Magarini in Kilifi county.
Area MP Michael Kingi says that the tycoons, with the help of elders and government officials, are buying land at throwaway prices, which he says is threatening the future generations.
On Wednesday, he termed the trade illegal, wondering how they have bought hundreds of acres yet those selling away the land haven't been given land ownership documents.
"There are tycoons who have invaded our area, buying land and processing title deeds, they don't come here alone, they are normally brought by elders from this area,'' he said.
The leader spoke when he hosted residents for a Christmas feat at Kamale Primary School.
He noted that the trade began after area governor Amason Kingi introduced land adjudication process to give locals title deeds.
He warned that the buyers will not be given ownership documents for the bought pieces of land, adding that the elders involved in the trade will be forced to pay back the money.
Kingi said that there have also been clashes between the elders, who have been divided into groups to identify lands for sale for the tycoons.
''Recently some elders acting as brokers of tycoons pushed for the arrest of fellow elders in Marereni, I had to make phone calls that led to their release at night,'' he added.
