A middle-aged man is nursing serious injuries after he was attacked by angry locals of Getare village in Nyatieko, Mosocho Kisii County when he impersonated as a police officer.
Area chief who identified himself as Enock said the suspect Duke Morikwa has been soliciting for bribes from locals on grounds that he is a police sergeant.
"Morikwa has been collecting money from locals claiming he is a police sergeant. Upon interrogation, it was established that he is not a police officer. Locals stormed his hideout, frog-marched him outside and gave him a thorough beating," said the chief.
Mr. Enock said he managed to rescue the suspect from the jaws of death.
"He could have been killed by angry locals who were baying for his blood. I rescued him and surrendered him to Nyakoe police station for court processing," he noted.
He warned locals more especially men against impersonating as police officers saying the law won't spare them.
Enock expressed confidence that the suspect will be sent to jail to send a warning to other suspects who are impersonating as police officers in deep villages.
