Kisii County Governor James Ongwae is on the receiving end over the stalled construction of Kiamwasi rescue centre.
Rigena Human Rights Watch chairman Thomson Osoro accused the county boss of keeping mum following the stalled project.
"Ongwae should explain to the people of Kisii where he has taken the money meant to complete the construction of Kiamwasi rescue centre meant for street children. He is busy accumulating wealth through dubious dealings while project meant to benefit the people has stalled," he said.
Osoro accused Ongwae of sleeping on the job terming him a failure who won't achieve anything.
"We are witnessing an increased number of children invading streets," added Osoro. "Ongwae is doing nothing to reduce the number of street children. Kisii residents need to wake up and put Ongwae to task to explain where he has taken the money for Kiamwasi project."
The chairman claimed that street children have turned business stalls for traders to beds at night.
He called in the county government to intervene and help resolve the situation.
"The county government should help street children to go to school and others who are ageing to trace their homes for traders to have peace while transacting their businesses," he added.
