Led by Uasin Gishu Chairman of Gospel Ministers Bishop Wilson Kurui and Uasin Gishu Council of Imams and Muslim Preachers of Kenya chairman Sheikh Abubakar Binithey said such claims are serious not only to his personal security but also to the unity of the nation.

“As religious leaders, we condemn any plans by a section of cabinet secretaries to assassinate the deputy president since it’s very dangerous and might bring bloodshed especially in the volatile Rift valley region where 2007 post-election violence took place,” said Bishop Kurui.

They reiterated that the DCI should move at speed and investigate to know if its true and those involved be arrested and put behind bars.

“We want president Uhuru Kenyatta to come out and condemn the same since it is not good for him to keep quiet while the life of his deputy is in danger, for him to stay mum is not good for the nation,” added the Uasin Gishu CIPK Chairman.

They cautioned politicians not to use the claims to insight Kenyans but instead wait for the investigation to be done and a report given by the government.

“I call upon all bishops and Muslim leaders in the country to take this thing seriously and should pray for the country and our leaders,” said Bishop Kurui.

Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya (Trade), Sicily Kariuki (Health), Joe Mucheru (ICT) and James Macharia (Transport) were on Monday summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation to record statements over the matter.
