Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi risks getting punished after she was found guilty of leaking information to the media regarding details of the investigation into a fake sex tape that surfaced online late last year.
National Assembly’s disciplinary committee may be forced to take action against the MP on the grounds of causing disrepute to the parliament.
According the Standard, Gedi allegedly gave the media a letter addressed to the Clerk of the National Assembly Michael Sialai from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti.
The letter acted as a request for the clerk to help in directing four MPs in connection to the sex tapes to avail themselves for interrogation.
The committee which is headed by the House Speaker Justin Muturi recommended for Gedi be punished for using the letter she received through her office for personal reasons.
The possible punishments facing Gedi range from a formal warning, issuing apology as directed by the committee, reprimand, being fined to suspension from office among others.
In a previous session while grilling the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti , the Powers and Privileges Committee which is investigating the fake sex tape sought to find out how the content of the letter had leaked to the media.
Gedi recorded a complaint with the DCI in February this year.
