Celebrated boxer Conjestina Achieng' made a surprise appearance on Saturday at KICC where she watched a match between her compatriot Fatuma Zarika and Zambia's Catherine Phiri.
A jovial Achieng' would be seen making rounds both at the ring and in the hall, an indication of remarkable recovery from a mental illness, which was widely escalated on social media.
During the event, Achieng' who put on a dark coat, could be seen cheering Zarika, the eventual winner of WBC tittle sponsored by betting firm Sportpesa.
Last year, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko dispatched his Sonko Rescue team to Achieng' rural home in Siaya to airlift her to Nairobi for treatment from a mental illness.
Mr Sonko would later post photos of him and Achieng' having a brief chat before sending her for rehabilitation. For months now, she had not made any public appearance until Saturday.
In 2017, Raila Odinga's wife Ida also donated a number of items to Ms Achieng', who bolted out of boxing unexpectedly due to her mental health challenges.
Raila Odinga and Tourism minister Najib Balala took on social media to congratulate Zari following her routine victory in a match many pundits said would have gone to the Zambian.
In an exclusive interview with Citizen TV, Achieng' said she was ready to join the ring after her recovery. Her appearance on Saturday could now give many professional and amateur boxers a lot of hope given her tremendous experience.
