Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is keen to work with opposition leader Raila Odinga, it has now emerged.
The two have shared cold relationship in the past with Raila often scolding the minister of using excessive force to contain opposition supporters in 2017 polls.
And a source close to the minister says he has evaluated his future and settled on backing Raila.
"He has studied our geopolitics and knows Raila is popular in the region. This is one of the factors making him to shift allegiance.
"Being a politician, you must chose the winning side and I think that is why he is keen to work with Raila," said the source.
During the burial of Henry Obwocha, in unlikely event, Matiang'i referred to Raila as 'Prime Minister' before according him welcome.
"I am pleased to introduce Prime Minister Raila who is amongst us. He is welcome to address us."
The two were pictured together in the wedding of a son to former Garissa Governor Nadhif Jama.
His decision to work with Raila my complicate options for Timothy Bosire, the ODM Treasurer who is also eyeing the Nyamira gubernatorial seat.
