Kenyans have expressed mixed reactions after a car that plunged into the Indian Ocean with Mariam Kighenda and her 4 years old daughter Amanda Mutheu was retrieved.

The car with registration number KCB 289C which had stayed in water since 29 September 2019 was pulled out of the water a few minutes from 4 pm on Friday.

The deceased’s husband John Wambua was at the scene as the car was being retrieved. 

Officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were also at the scene. They are expected to conduct investigations into what could have caused the car to reverse into the water. 

The rescue mission made use of hired technological equipment and divers from South Africa. 

Despite challenging conditions underwater, the car was traced on Wednesday, 58 meters under the water. 

It has now come as a relief to the family of the deceased who will get to give their loved ones a respectful send-off. 

Kenyans who have been curiously following the recovery operation came out to give their different views after the car was retrieved.
