Political commentator and youth activist Ruth Amboko has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta for extending the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce working term.
Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga, with whom they appointed the task force, on Wednesday handed the 14-member team more time to spearhead public participation of the BBI report.
Though the movie has not been received well by some political players, Amboko has jumped to its defence, saying that it was very necessary to use the same team to handle the remaining part.
Speaking on Saturday, she observed that given that the constitutional amendment report must be made familiar with the people, it was a wise idea to use a team already fully familiar with it.
"Since this is the committee that collected Kenyans' views, they find it better not to use another one (Waliona kwa sababu hii ndio kamati ilichukua maoni ya wakenya, wasilete nyingine)," she said on Saturday.
She lauded the looming public participation exercise, saying that it gives Kenyans who feel that their views were not included a good opportunity to have them factored-in.
According to Amboko, those criticizing the tenure extension should cease being negative and reading too much in the decision, which she termed very necessary.
"People are at work and haven't found the time to read the report, let it be taken and explained to them. Let's not be negative about everything (Watu wako kazi zao, hawajapata nafasi ya kusoma ripoti. Wacha wapelekewe na waelezwe mile kilicho kwenye ripoti. Tusiwe watu ambao wako negative kwa kila kitu)," she added.
Already, a section of politicians, including Ford Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetangula has faulted the move, saying that it would have been better if a new team was brought on board.
