The containers worth Sh700,000 had been used to transport road maintenance equipment from Mombasa to Homa Bay before they disappeared two years ago.

According to Homabay DCI David Wachira, one of the containers was found in Kochola East village in Nyakach sub-county.

The suspect behind the theft of the containers is reported to have sold the container to a client in Kisumu but it was returned on Sunday after news that it could be stolen property spread.

Wachira stated that the suspect got the containers from a county government official. However, the suspect has since gone into hiding and is being pursued by the police.

The DCI officer further revealed that another suspect was arrested 12 days ago following the recovery of the other container in Muhoroni.

In August this year, former county chief officer in the department of roads Chris Agong' and roads inspector John Paul Otieno were nabbed in connection with the theft.

The two were arraigned in court and later released on a Sh200,000 bail and a bond of Sh500,000 each after denying the theft charges.

The case is set for hearing on October 22, 2019.
