Garissa County has reiterated its commitment to promoting and finding religious education as the only way of promoting morality in the region.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the Markaz Ibnu Thaymiya function in Bulla Mzuri on Wednesday, Abdi Dagane, the Deputy Governor stated that the county has come up with a directorate of religious affairs in a bid to promote the studies.
The directorate, he said, was to asses existing madrasas and advise on emerging issues.
Further, the county administration has increased bursaries allocated to the studies up from the previous Sh7 million to Sh 10 million.
"We have allocated 10M bursary kitty this financial year up from sh 7M of last year and we intend to build classrooms to ensure our administration meets the requirements in the madrasa sector which mostly relies on donations," Dagane said through the Garissa County Government Press Unit.
Concerning the ongoing drought situation, the Dagne urged local politicians to stop politicising the issue, adding that the county was determined to solving the perennial problem conclusively.
As a long term initiative, Dagane revealed that a water tank was being constructed at Bulla Mzuri to serve locals of up to Tawakal area.
