Motorists across the country have been urged to ensure that all their motorbikes are lawfully registered and have genuine number plates.
The chairman of the Boda-boda Association of Kenya, Ken Onyango has attributed the increased incidents of crime, especially in urban areas to the many unregistered motorcycles.
Speaking on Radio Jambo on Sunday morning, Onyango insisted that the riders should only work with registered motorcycles.
He warned that those who will be caught using unregistered motorcycles will be heavily punished by the law enforcement agencies.
“We have continually received claims from members of the public that a lot of criminals purpot to be boda-boda riders and use unregistered motorbikes to commit criminal offences so as to escape unnoticed, so I urge boda-boda riders to be careful and identify themselves well and the areas they work,” he said.
Onyango added that all boda-boda riders should be so careful, asking the genuine ones to report suspicious operators.
“If you are a boda boda rider and you meet a colleague who is a stranger to you, try to ask him where he operates from and if you are not satisfied with the response or the motorcycle he is using is not registered, report the matter quickly to the police,” he added.
