Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is among the politicians who are eagerly waiting for the Supreme Court ruling on Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s re-election petition case.
The highest court of the land will make a ruling on the case after it received submissions from both Mutua and former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, the ruling is crucial and will determine on the direction the Ukambani politics will take in 2022.
Ngure said Kalonzo and Mutua’s presidential ambitions will be determined by the ruling.
“The Supreme Court ruling will either make or break Kalonzo and Mutua’s 2022 presidential bids,” Ngure said.
He spoke to this writer in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Ngure said Kalonzo will have it rough selling his political agenda in Machakos County in 2022 should the Supreme Court reinstate Mutua’s victory.
He, however, argued that the former Vice President will have it easy if Mutua loses the seat and the county goes to a by-election.
“It is all about the political supremacy. Kalonzo and Mutua have equal chances of either remaining active in politics or being condemned to political oblivion," Ngure said.
The analyst added that Mutua will have won the first round in his 2022 bid if the Supreme Court upholds his victory.
The Court of Appeal nullified Mutua's election on grounds that it was not free and fair.
Governor Mutua, however, insists that he was validly elected as the Machakos governor.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader says he will accept the decision the Supreme Court Judges will render on his appeal.
