Kenya national volleyball women's team, Malkia Strikers, are closer to getting a ticket of participation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics games after beating Botswana with straight sets at the qualifiers played in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
This was their second win after they dispatched Egypt 3-1 sets in the opening match played on Sunday.
They beat Botswana by leading in all sets with scores; 25-17, 25-19 and 25-18, according to Citizen Digital.
Malkia Strikers who are the nine-time African Champions are expected to battle their rivals who are also the hosts, Cameroon on Tuesday before facing off with Nigeria on Thursday.
Speaking after the match, Coach Paul Bitok pointed out that they are focusing on the oncoming match with Cameroon which is possibly tough.
“The win against Botswana has given us an extra morale before confronting Cameroon tomorrow in what will be an explosive encounter. Since I took over we have met Cameroon three times and I have managed to win two times so we are ready to face them,” Bitok said as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Captain Mercy Moim said that the whole team had improved in the areas of weakness, and they will possibly secure a ticket.
"We have played very well today because we all improved in our areas of concern and if we play like today then we will clinch the Games ticket,” Moim.
The team is aiming to participate in the Olympic games after missing in action for 16 years.
