Renowned lawyer Nelson Havi was not particularly amused by a passionate appeal for help by a social media user apparently on behalf of a bright student who comes from a poor background.

According to the Twitter user who made the appeal, the needy student had scored an impressive 395 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and had been called to join Maranda High School.

"Ochieng Grifin scored 395 but may not join Maranda high school(where he was called). The mom isn't financially capable. Help the young man join his dream school, " the social media user wrote on Twitter, tagging Nelson Havi in the post among others.

The lawyer, who appeared somewhat offended by the appeal for help hit back, wondering why the user had not sought help from ward and constituency kitties before raising the matter on social media.

Without mincing his words, the lawyer disparaged the appeal for help as just another reminder of how entrenched the fundraiser culture is in Kenya.

"Chief, the GoK offers (is supposed to offer) bursaries for needy, deserving students. Have you checked at the Ward and Constituency level first? This fundraiser culture for everything will ruin Kenya!" Nelson Havi fired in his tweet.
