Over 60 women groups from various sub-counties in Nakuru have a reason to smile after receiving improved kienyeji chicks for poultry farming.
The chicks were donated by Ahadi Kenya Trust, Lotto Foundation and office of Nakuru Woman Representative Liza Chelule.
Wilson Ndung’u, from Kroiler poultry that was tasked with supplying the chicks, said the chicks are easier to rear.
“We call them improved kienyeji because they don’t need much work to rear them compared to other species,” said Mr.Ndung’u.
Ahadi Kenya CEO Dr Stanley Kamau said the move aims at ensuring food security.
“One of the President’s Big 4 agenda is to ensure that there is food security and the only way to ensure that is by empowering women and youths. We have done so in Kisumu and other counties and we have seen a positive impact,” said Dr.Kamau.
Kamau asked the government to engage Kenyans on empowerment programs.
“There is no need for government to start huge projects that cannot help the society and at long last, we hear corruption cases. We need to move to grassroots and empower women in the little projects,” said Kamau.
Nakuru County Woman Rep Liza Chelule called on beneficiaries to ensure they remain committed to the project.
“As County Woman Rep, I want to commend all those who have assisted us in this. My appeal to the beneficiaries is that they remain committed so that they can reap the fruits of their work, ”said Chelule.
