Political commentator and analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has expressed his opinion on how the Kikuyu community living in the Rift Valley region will vote in the 2022 general elections.
According to Ngunyi, the Kikuyus in the region will remain loyal to Deputy President William Ruto even if their counterparts in the Mt Kenya region will opt to support another candidate.
“Kikuyus will be OUT of POWER for 30 years after 2022. This EXPLAINS their ERATIC behaviour. They have to PREPARE for the next 30 years in just 36 Months. And if they BETRAY @WilliamsRuto, the VALLEY Kikuyus will vote independent of the MOUNTAIN Kikuyus,” posted the analyst on his verified Twitter account.
Mutahi Ngunyi’s opinion comes at the time when Jubilee’s politicians are locked in a war on whether DP Ruto will be the automatic presidential candidate for the party or not.
Ruto’s home turf, Rift Valley region is also looking forward to the support of Mt Kenya as agreed in 2013 during the formation of Jubilee party and after supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidential bid in 2013 and 2017.
The debate has led to a division in Mt Kenya’s political circles and recently Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria who is allied to DP Ruto is said to have threatened to resign citing security reasons.
Kuria had also accused the Jubilee government, in which he is part of, for sidelining the Central region in terms of development projects.
