Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati has reportedly scared Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's grip in the larger Gusii region, an MP who spoke in confidence says.
For the last one year, Arati and Matiang'i have been embroiled in vicious battle in the control of the larger Gusii region, with the two speaking from the same script in the handshake politics.
According to the MP, Matiang'i is struggling to stamp authority due to Arati's financial muscle, most gotten from Chinese friends through the connections from his wife.
"To be honest, Matiang'i is struggling to stamp his authority. Simba Arati has been able to organize and mobilise several people from Gusii behind him to an extent of scaring the minister.
"I think his financial prowess disadvantages those of us who may be willing to challenge him. However, the best this is that we should work together as a team for the sake of our people," he said.
While Arati has openly expressed his intentions to contest for Kisii gubernatorial seat, Matiang'i, who has an advantage in both Kisii and Nyamira, is yet to formally launch his bid.
But sources close to him intimate that he could do warming to succeed Governor John Nyagarama, who retires in 2022 and two terms in charge.
At a function in Menyenya, Matiang'i said: "We should be thinking on how to better lives of our people first. The rest will come. Let us not panick unnecessarily."
