Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has continued with his 'ordinary man' trend that he started last year during the electioneering period.
When Kabogo was defeated during the Jubilee primaries by the current Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, he started to take a low profile campaigning strategy where he could be spotted eating in ordinary food kiosks.
He could also be seen interacting freely with locals in the streets as well as campaigning on a motorbike.
Though the strategy did not win him the election, it endeared him to many locals who started to perceive him differently.
Initially, Kabogo was perceived as a proud and wealthy politician who could not interact with 'commoners'.
On Wednesday, Kabogo re-ignited his 'commoner' aspect when he uploaded a photo on his official Twitter handle where he is seen warmly hugging an elderly woman after they had tea together at an ordinary food joint.
Some Twitter users wondered how the former governor could leave his elegant mansion to go and take tea from an ordinary food 'kibanda' to which Kabogo replied, '...and why not, sometimes their tea is much better'.
Kabogo is, however, not the first high-profile politician to enjoy a meal at a local kibanda. President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have on several occasions been spotted in the past 'behaving ordinary' which makes many term them as 'humble'.
For instance, Uhuru once visited a family in Kiambu where the family house was mud-walled but the president spent some time in the house chatting cheerfully with members of that family.
Ruto, on the other hand, was once captured eating 'ugali' and fish at an ordinary food kiosk in Eldoret.
Here are the reactions to Kabogo's photo.
