This follows remarks from a section of leaders including Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei suggesting that the ongoing crackdown on suspected government officials involved in corruption is targeting the Kalenjin community.

But in an interview on Radio Citizen's 'Cheche' Sunday evening, Cheruiyot termed it wrong to drag the entire community in the fight against individuals.

"Ni vibaya kusema ni jamii inaangamizwa maana wanaoiba hawaibii jamii. Jamii hainufaiki na hizi pesa. Wanaonufaika ni wezi, familia zao na waliowatuma.

(We cannot drag the entire community into this, the people who steal do it for their own good and that of their lords and families)," said the KANU Woman Rep.

Speaking during a fundraiser in Mosoriot last week, Cherargei claimed that the arrests, the latest one being that of outgoing Kenya Pipeline Company boss Joe Sang are done in bad faith and are politically advised.

"We will not accept our own people to be taken in circles. The DCI boss should know that we are keenly watching his steps. Corruption should not be used as a weapon for 2022 succession contest," the youthful Senator was quoted by the Standard.

Sang was arrested in Nairobi on Friday and is set to be arraigned in court today (Monday) to face graft-related charges.
