World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge was treated like a king on Monday evening as he jetted from Moi International Airport, Eldoret to Vienna, Austria. He is on a mission to prove that there are no limits to humanity as he tries to run a marathon in less than two hours at the INEOS 1:59 challenge in Vienna. Here are some facts about the owner of the $24.5 million (Ksh.2.4 billion) luxurious Gulfstream G280 jet, Sir James Arthur Ratcliffe.
Sir James Arthur Ratcliffe owns a chemical empire that has made him the richest person in Britain with his net worth estimated to be £21billion according to The Sun. He is chairman and CEO of chemical manufacturer Ineos Group that is sponsoring Kipchoge's challenge.
In 1974, he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Birmingham. After school, he worked with Esso and Advent International.
He founded Ineos in 1998 and the firm was valued at £35billion in 2018. He also owns Swiss Super League football club, FC Lausanne-Sport.
Sir James Arthur Ratcliffe supports Brexit.
"The Brits are perfectly capable of managing the Brits and don't need Brussels telling them how to manage things. I just don't believe in the concept of a United States of Europe. It's not viable," he said last year as reported by The Sun.
