Deputy President (DP) William Ruto on Thursday hosted Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama and his brother McDonald Mariga at his Karen office in Nairobi.

Wanyama was accompanied by a number of officials from his organisation Wanyama Roya Charity Cup. 

In a series of tweets after the meeting, Ruto said he is committed to support youths in pursuing their talents. 

He noted that it is important for the government to support youths in different sports, adding that both women and men need to be supported to ensure they progress.

“We support efforts that promote scouting for sporting talent; honing skills and developing youth to exploit their potential, including joining the ranks of professional sportsmen and women,” he said.

Ruto also said that the government is ready to invest resources in different sports, adding that sporting activities have transformed the lives of millions of youths in the country. 

The DP further noted that through sports, talented youths have an opportunity to contribute towards the economic growth of this nation. 

He observed that the government has initiated different projects to support youths in pursuit of their careers in various sports.

“Strengthening the sports industry through adequate resource mobilisation and infrastructure development is key to ensuring youths excel in sport and earn a decent living,” he said.
