ODM leadership has admitted that the opposition party has been on the decline lately with regards to support and influence among Kenyans.
According to party's Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, the block is working on a major revamp ahead of the much-awaited 2022 general polls to bring it back on its feet.
Speaking on Thursday, the former Nairobi senatorial aspirant said that they will begin with a grassroot elections before next year.
"As members of ODM NEC, we are being candid about issues raised in an internal audit report. Performance of the party has been declining and support has been flickering. It is time we put our house in order,” he stated during the party's retreat in Nakuru on Thursday.
Sifuna spoke during a party National Executive Council (NEC) retreat in Nakuru County, where he also declared the party's readiness to face its problems head-on.
“It is time for ODM to bite the bullet and prepare for genuine party grassroots elections ahead of 2022,” he added.
Similar remarks were made by ODM National Chair and Suba South MP John Mbadi who said that the meeting was convened to look into matters of poor nomination and structure, which an internal audit report recently blamed for the party's dwindling fortunes.
The meeting was also attended by party leader Raila Odinga, who did not address the media, among other party leaders and members.
