Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce Joint Secretary Paul Mwangi has explained the reasons behind the taskforce's silence since it handed over its report last month.
This comes amid reports of possible changes in the near future, among then adoption of some clauses included in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which was rejected by County Assemblies.
There are also reports that Lawyer and Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot, the brain behind Punguza Mizigo, might be included in the implementation phase of the BBI suggestions.
The Standard has established that the leader, who is also pushing his own referendum drive dubbed Punguza Mizigo, might be involved in the implementation of BBI suggestions.
However, asked to comment on the claims, Mwangi said that until the taskforce is gazetted afresh, after the recent extension of its tenure, he cannot speak on the said developments.
“I am aware that the President said the term of the BBI team will be extended, but I don’t know when the gazette notice will be done. Until and unless that is done, it will be premature to talk about anything,” he told the paper on Thursday.
Punguza Mizigo clauses allegedly being considered for adoption include clauses on the anti-graft war and strengthening of devolution.
The paper has also established that BBI is keen on including a number of political players in the team, among then Machakos governor Alfred Mutua and Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga).
Mutua has since confirmed his availability and readiness to join the technical team, which could mean a confirmation to the reports.
Other suggestions the BBI seeks to adopt from the collapsed BBI bill, which was rejected by county assemblies, include elevation of the Senate to become the higher house.
