Dr Edwin Abonyo, husband to the late Joyce Laboso, has today emotionally recounted when his wife was diagnosed with cancer.
Speaking at a requiem service for her wife, Abonyo revealed that she was diagnosed with the terminal disease in 1991, at a time when they were very young.
He didn't know how his parents would react to the news that their daughter-in-law had cancer.
"In 1991, we had one of the most, it wasn't catastrophic but it almost became catastrophic. That is when Joyce first got cancer. In 1991, back then we only has Brian and Ted... It was a scare in our life, we were still very young," Dr Abonyo said.
When the news came through that his wife had been diagnosed with the disease, it was a difficult emotional moment for him.
Dr Abonyo recounted how he drove home to his mother with tears in his eyes. When he reached home, he told his mother that his wife was dying.
His mother assured him that God would see them through after praying.
The Bomet Governor succumbed to cancer at Nairobi hospital after a long run with treatment.
Her body will be transported to Koru in Kisumu where she is expected to be laid to rest.
Laboso's battle with cancer was kept out of the public and was only revealed after her death.
