A video of Deputy President William Ruto cheering World Champion Eliud Kipchoge as he seeks to make history in Vienna, Austria has surfaced online.
The video shows DP Ruto with other supporters lined up beside the tracks to inspire the athlete in the INEOS 1:59 challenge.
Ruto skipped the burial of former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale’s wife Adelaide Khalwale to attend the event. He said he is confident that Kipchoge will make history when he takes to the track.
President Uhuru Kenyatta called Kipchoge on Friday to encourage him before the competition. Uhuru exuded confidence that Kipchoge has what it takes to break the world record.
''I am feeling confident, you are in our prayers my friend I just wanted to pass that message onto you. That we just pray for you that you will be successful, but for us it is not the success but the effort that you put in and the effort for humanity my brother," he said.
In an interview in Austria, Kipchoge assured Kenyans that he will not let them down during the contest. He said that race matters greatly to him because he is going to make history at the end of the day.
