It was a relief for Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu after the High Court suppressed the corruption charges levelled against her by the Director of Public Prosecution.
While reacting to the decision by the High Court, EMbakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino congratulated the Judiciary for suppressing the charges which he said were politically motivated.
"I take this opportunity to welcome the decision of the High Court in Milimani quashing the politically motivated case against the Honorable Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu," read a statement by Babu.
Owino now wants DCJ Mwilu to focus on the work ahead and deliver with no fear or favour. He advised her not to hold any grudge against those who are pushing to implicate her.
Additionally, the Embakasi East MP bashed the government for using a foreign lawyer in the case.
He congratulated the legal team that represented DCJ for defeating the foreign lawyer. He, however, asked the government not to 'import' lawyers again.
"I further celebrate our Senior Counsel Senator James Orengo, Senior Counsel John Khaminwa, Wakili Jackson Awele and the rest of the team who faced off and defeated an imported colonialist who was brought here to persecute one of Kenya’s brightest daughters," reads his statement.
"It is my prayer that this is the last time taxpayers money will be spent hiring foreigners to pursue political scores," he said.
The five-judge bench hearing the case noted that the DPP lacked the legal basis to indict Mwilu because the evidence was illegally obtained and it interfered with her privacy.
