Chief Justice David Maraga has mourned the death of a top judge who died on Friday in a grisly road accident in Nyeri.

Maraga took to his Twitter account to mourn the death of Justice Samuel Mukunya who was a judge at Environment and Lands Division at the Kerugoya High Court.

"I have learnt with great sadness about the demise of Judge Samuel Mukunya of the Environment and Land court through a tragic road accident this morning," posted Maraga.

The Chief Justice further mourned Mukunya noting he was a personal friend for many years.  

"Judge Mukunya, a personal friend of many years, was an outstanding jurist. Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends," added Maraga. 

 

Mukunya joined the Judiciary in 2015. He had just recently been transferred to the Kerugoya High Court from Bunguma Environmental and Lands Division.

Confirming the tragic accident, Castarais Mugo, the Nyeri base police commander said Mukunya lost control of his Land Cruiser V8 and hit a canter.

Mugo said that the judge died while he was being rushed to Nyeri County Referral Hospital for treatment.

His body was taken to the Nyeri County Referral Hospital.
