In 2013, the then United Republican Party (URP) joined hands with The National Alliance (TNA) and campaigned for Uhuru Kenyatta, they later merged to form the current Jubilee party shortly before the 2017 general elections.

It is believed that in 2013, an agreement was reached that President Kenyatta would rally the Central region to support DP Ruto in 2022. The now expects to be supported by Mt. Kenya region.

However, the entry of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga into the Jubilee government through the handshake marked the beginning of suspicion between Ruto’s and Uhuru’s allies.

Politicians allied to the DP feel that President Kenyatta may not fulfil his promise and instead choose to shift his support to Raila Odinga who is also rumoured to be eying the presidency.

DP Ruto is determined to become the next president of the Republic of Kenya and his recent visits to the Western region suggests that he on a ‘hunting’ mission.

It seems Ruto is no longer assured with the support of Mt. Kenya mafia and him being a smart politician, he has decided to look for the second option. His tours to the Western region has been a bit successful. FORD-Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula is almost dancing to his tune and the two might work together in the coming general elections.

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has also pledged his support to DP Ruto but only if Kakamega residents decide to rally behind him.

There is no doubt that Ruto will have a better share of votes from this region if Wetangula and Khalwale will join his camp keeping in mind that in 2017 elections, Jubilee party won several elective positions in the region that was and still is considered a Raila Odinga stronghold.
