An inquest into the tragic death of Nyeri's third Governor, Dr Wahome Gakuru kicked off on Tuesday.
The hearing had stalled for several months after the arrest of Nyeri Senior Resident Magistrate Pauline Maisy Chesang.
Chesang, who was freed, had been linked to the mysterious death of her husband lawyer Robert Chesang.
The case started in January before it was reassigned to Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo on March 21 following the arrest of Chesang.
The first witness in the inquest, Josphat Mwangi, told the court that the county boss had received death threats before being involved in an accident.
While responding to Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecution, Peter Mairanyi, the witness claimed that the governor died under doubt-able circumstances.
Mwangi, who was working as the personal security officer of the deceased, claimed that Gakuru’s political advisor, Kinyua Kimuru had not been in good terms with the governor, after he denied him tenders at the county level.
“The late Governor Gakuru had raised concern following a goat eating meeting that was held at Magutu area in Mathira constituency by one of his close allies during the campaign period,” he said, as quoted by Capital FM.
The witness also told the court that the county boss had told the church that some of his critics had resorted to underhand methods to frustrate his leadership.
He also poked holes on the response during the incident after the governor remained in the crashed vehicle for around 40 minutes.
