A section of Moi University students has given the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) 24 hours to disburse their respective loans to their bank accounts.
The students who on Monday held a peaceful demonstration in Eldoret town to express dissatisfaction over the delay in the disbursement of the funds warned that they will paralyze normal business in the Uasin Gishu's capital should Helb fail to heed to their demands.
“As I am speaking, Moi University is in a state of confusion because students have not received their HELB loans yet we use to pay fees and put food on the table,” Moi University students' union Secretary general Moes Tisa told the press.
Tisa said as a result of the delay in Helb loans their studies have been disrupted due to lack of funds which they utilize as school fees and for upkeep purposes.
“If nothing is done in the next 24 hours, we will hold demonstrations for the whole week until our problems are solved," he warned.
The students drawn from the university's main campus in Kesses and West campus further asked the Education Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohammed to intervene and help solve the matter as soon as possible.
They further threatened to march to the ministry's head office at Anniversary towers in Nairobi should the CS fail to help salvage the situation.
