Kenya National Women's team Harambee Starlets will be welcomed back into the country in a heroic way, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has revealed.

Starlets on Monday beat Tanzania women football team 2-0 to win their maiden Cecafa Women’s Championship title. 

The match that was held at Chamazi Stadium in Dar es Salaam, attracted a huge crowd from both Tanzania and Kenya.

''FKF has lined up a trophy tour for the #HarambeeStarlets starting from the airport at 10 am, onto Mombasa Road, through the CBD and onto Thika Road after which the team will be treated to a luncheon at the Utalii Hotel,'' said FKF in a tweet.

The team maintained an unbeaten run in the competition, recording the highest win of 12-0 against Djibouti. 

Starlets until Monday, had never won a Cecafa Women’s Championship title. 

After the historic win, Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma said the team is looking forward for better results even in future.

“In all our matches, we always play for three points and today was not any different. We thank God for the win and we hope to build on this performance going forward,” said Ouma as quoted by Daily Nation

The National Soccer women's team has recorded good performances this year that has earned them a nomination to this years' Team of the Year awards by CAF.

Coach David Ouma has also been nominated for Coach of the Year awards. 

The team's bid to participate in the 2020 Olympics were thwarted by Zambia.
