Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has laughed off resistance from a section of leaders allied to DP William Ruto on BBI report, arguing that they have realised it's unstoppable.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga are expected to receive the report next week, after which it will be made public for debate and subsequent referendum.
On Friday, Ngunjiri said the team has been opposing the Building Bridges Initiative team, adding that they have finally realised the impending report is a reality.
The first term lawmaker said most of Tanga Tanga brigade concerns were catered for during submissions by those who believed in the team.
"We also understand that when BBI was collecting views from members of the public from the Mt Kenya region, this section of Mt Kenya leaders refused to attend these forums and present their views. Someone had told them BBI was not going anywhere. And they believed him!" he said.
"Now they have realized BBI is unstoppable - and they are trying to catch-up. But I would urge them to be patient and wait for the report. They will then realize that all the issues they are raising were raised by those of us who actually presented views to BBI - & covered adequately & comprehensively."
Tanga Tanga brigade has been opposing activities of BBI team with Deputy President William Ruto leading onslaught against it for months now.
At Parliament buildings on Thursday, a section of Mt Kenya region leaders allied to Ruto opposed the report, even before its contents are made public.
Senator Isaac Mwaura said, "When it comes to governance, we want the principle of one man one vote respected. We will not elect leaders through Parliament or [electoral] college."
Among the MPs who signed Thursday's statement are John Kinyua (Laikipia Senator), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Kwenya Thuku (Kinangop), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), Purity Ngirici (Kirinyaga), Isaac Mwaura (Nominated Senator) and John Nyaga (Manyatta).
Others were David Kiaraho (Ol Kalau), Kanini Kega (Kieni), Patrick Mariri (Laikipia East), Rahab Mukami (Nyeri) and Charles Njagua (Starehe).
