The senator became popular and set himself for the governor seat in 2017.

In 2017, Sonko easily trounced former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero to win the top seat.

The controversial and flamboyant governor is now the voice of Nairobi politics even as 2022 politics take shape.

Political pundits observe that Sonko will determine on who becomes the next president after Uhuru Kenyatta owing to his popularity and control of city politics.

Sonko has been quoted saying that he will not seek re-election in 2022 but has dreams of contesting for the presidential seat in future.
