Kenya Premier League (KPL) Champions Gor Mahia will tonight face English side Everton in an international friendly match.
The match will be played at Everton’s Goodison Park home turf, starting 10PM Kenyan time.
It will be the second time the teams will be facing each other, after last year’s encounter in Tanzania saw Everton escape with a narrow 2-1 win against the 17-time KPL Champions.
A section of Gor Mahia fans and football stakeholders in Kisumu exclusively interviewed on Monday evening said they are looking forward to the match, as they wish Gor Mahia all the best.
“It will be a tricky match but Everton players will see fire. We have made very good signings, and the guys are very motivated. A draw will be okay for us,” said Gor Mahia fan Daniel Otieno Wanyera.
“We are the Mighty Gor Mahia. We must teach Everton a bitter lesson,” said Vivian Acheing, another Gor Mahia fan.
“It will be a good game. Gor Mahia players should play with an aim of marketing themselves. Because of the weather and the pitch which Gor Mahia players are not used to, they will lose the match,” said Sports Journalist David Bondo.
“In Dylan Kerr, Gor Mahia has a very good coach who understands his players and Everton’s players since he is from United Kingdom. It will be a close tie. If Everton field a strong side, they will most definitely win the match but if they underrate Gor Mahia and field a weaker side, Kogallo will win or the game will end in draw,” said Vihiga Queens head coach Alex Alumira.
“It will be a difficult game but a good one for Gor Mahia players. If they play well, they will win. I am behind them, I am praying for them. A 1-0 win in favour of Gor Mahia will be okay,” said AFC Leopards fans Kisumu Branch Secretary General Jacktone Mulanda.
The match will be aired lived by K24 and NTV.
Gor will become the first East African side to ever play on English soil.
