The MCAs are accusing Ngilu of overseeing a corrupt government.

Elected in the August 8, 2017 general election on NARC ticket, Ngilu has rubbished the impeachment plot.

The bad blood between the MCAs and Ngilu has been fueled by the county legislator’s refusal to approve the supplementary budget.

The MCAs have vowed not to approve the budget until Ngilu accounts to the county's previous budgets.

Ngilu is said to have reached out to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for intervention in attempts to have the budget approved

Political analyst Peter Ngure argues that it is Kalonzo who can save the governor from the MCAs' onslaught.

"Ngilu badly needs Kalonzo if she wants to survive the political storm she is facing,” Ngure said.

Ngure spoke to this writer in Nairobi on Monday.

He said Ngilu is likely to lose her seat in case the MCAs succeed in impeaching her and the county goes for a gubernatorial by-election since it is Kalonzo's political stronghold.

Ngure said Ngilu's unity with her counterparts Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) to attack the Wiper leader could be the last nail on her political coffin.

“Ngilu cannot afford to rebel against Kalonzo unless she wants to quit politics prematurely,” he added.

The analyst said Ngilu has to be bold and reach out to Kalonzo for a truce.

Governor Ngilu, Mutua and Kibwana have formed the People’s Empowerment Movement (PEM) to champion the region’s development.

Some politicians have, however, equated the movement to a political tool aimed at fighting Kalonzo’s dominance in Kamba politics.
