Loice Anyango who is the wife of the late freedom fighter Achieng’ Oneko has passed away at their rural home in Rarieda, Siaya County on Saturday.
The bereaved family revealed that Anyango who died at the age of 79 was recovering after being discharged from the hospital.
Her son, Dick Oneko, said her mother's death came a week after she was discharged from hospital.
“She was discharged after doctors informed us that she well and we travelled back home. She even had a walk in the morning before she passed on,” Oneko stated
He added that Anyango had suffered a mild stroke, describing her mother's death as a big blow to the family.
“It is a big blow to the family but we take it as God’s plan. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” he stated.
The late Anyango has been described as a caring and God-fearing woman.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon to eulogize her.
"My Condolences to the family of the late Achieng Oneko on the passing on of Mama Loyce Anyango. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May her soul Rest In Eternal Peace," Raila tweet read.
