The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party will hold its grassroot elections next year, ODM party leader Raila Odinga has said.
Speaking during a consultative meeting with ODM members of the Nairobi County Assembly on Tuesday, the former Prime Minister said the move is aimed at strengthening the party.
He said the move also seeks to "inject new blood" into the party, adding that it will begin with the online registration of new members with eyes on the 2022 general polls.
Raila, who is set to launch the registration exercise on Tuesday next week, promised that the elections will be free and fair for participants.
"We have begun the process of membership recruitment. We are doing it digitally and I want to encourage as many people as possible to join the party and help us build a stronger political party," he said.
According to Odinga, the polls will be transparent and seek to bring in more leaders from the village level to the top level, ahead of 2022 elections where the party is expected to fully participate.
ODM and Jubilee are considered the largest political parties in the country at the moment based on number of elected representatives in Parliament.
