Despite his initial trips to Gusii in company of DP William Ruto, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Saturday yet again snubbed the country's number two.

Last week, Ruto traversed in sections of Nyamira and Kisii Counties with Matiang'i conspicuously absent in the latest trips.

And on Saturday, Ruto pitched tent at Kitutu Chache North and Bobasi constituency where he drummed support from among the locals ahead of 2022 polls.

Only Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, MPs Jimmy Angwenyi, Richard Onyonka and Richard Tong'i played a critical role in the latest trip even as Governor James Ongwae made an auxiliary appearance.

In part of April and May this year, Matiang'i was in the frontline pushing for Ruto's presidency with a section of local leadership backing him to deputise Ruto.

Senator Millicent Omanga, MPs Sylvanus Osoro, Richard Tong'i among others were the first to endorse the partnership.

But Matiang'i has lately snubbed Ruto's 10 record trips to Nyamira and Kisii, a rare occasion since he often attends rallies or programmes organised by his bosses.

It is rumoured however, Matiang'i is in the other side of handshake, which is not walking in Ruto's path towards 2020 polls.
