President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday commissioned the construction of Olkaria VI power plant at Olkaria geothermal fields in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The head of state said the project is a major boost to the economy of Nakuru county and the nation at large.

“This is a major boost to the energy sector and the economy of the nation,” he said.

The sentiments were echoed by Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui who added that Nakuru County is proud to be part of the great project that provides energy to many people in our country.

Governor Kinyanjui added that mechanisms are being put in place to ensure use of geothermal energy in various industries so as to reduce the cost of production and in turn attract more investors.

Uhuru assured that the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with KenGen will set aside Sh300 million to expand the Naivasha hospital.

The function was also attended by Energy CS Charles Keter and the KenGen management team, Members of Parliament, Members of the County Assembly among other county officials.
