Maguire had earlier on refused to present himself before a Congressional committee to field questions about the controversial call.

President Trump reportedly called the president of Ukraine Volomydyr Zelensikiy and asked him to revive an investigation against top Democratic Party contender in the presidential race Joe Biden.

Maguire will testify before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and have a closed session with the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi announced this week that an impeachment enquiry would be opened against Trump.

The controversy started after a complaint was made by an unidentified member of the intelligence community over commitments that President Trump made to the Ukrainian president.

Those concerned by the call say that the head of state was effectively asking a foreign leader to help him win an election, a request that they say is against democratic and legal principles that the United States of America subscribes to.

President Trump has dismissed the impeachment inquiry calling it witch hunt garbage.
