The beauty of lipstick comes with a price. There are several chemicals used to make lipsticks. Some of these chemicals are harmful to one's health.
1. Heavy metals used could cause organ damage
Some of the heavy metals used to make lipsticks include chromium, magnesium and lead. When these chemicals get their way into the body and accumulate, they could cause organ damage. Chromium is specifically dangerous to the kidneys and can cause failure.
2. Lead in lipstick is dangerous for the nervous system
Lead is a major component of lipsticks. This heavy metal has neurotoxin properties meaning it is dangerous for the nervous system.
3. Disrupted endocrine system
The endocrine system is responsible for the production of hormones. Petrochemical products used in some lipsticks could cause damage to the endocrine system hindering the body's natural functioning and development.
4. Skin allergies
A substance called bismuth oxychloride is used to preserve lipsticks. This chemical might instigate allergic reactions following the long use of lipsticks.
5. You ingest toxins
While we know lipsticks should not be ingested because they contain chemicals that are toxic, sometimes it happens by mistake that we ingest them. Anytime you mistakenly leak and swallow lipstick, you swallow toxins. In the long run, this could cause health problems.
Check for quality of lipsticks before purchasing.
