Speaking after the launch of the distribution, area MCA Dr Peter Mbae said the program will go a long way in addressing the challenges of diseases that always come with water and poor sanitation.

According to Mbae, the program was started two months ago with an aim to ensure that all households have access to clean water.

The 7,500 water filters at a cost of Sh4,000 per water filter will help transform the livelihoods in the rural areas of Kabazi Ward.

“Our plan is to ensure that every household in Kabazi Ward has a water field so that we can address some of the diseases,” said Dr.Mbae.

While citing water shortage as one of the main challenges facing the people of Kabazi Ward as witnessed during public participation forums, the MCA said his office is working with other partners to ensure that there will be 7 major boreholes as well as other water projects to address the same under phase one by the end of June 2019.

He added that in the second phase he will be focusing on solar panels for the water projects as well as piping. This, he says will help address the water challenge that has been experienced in the ward in the past years.

“By end of June, there will be 7 major boreholes as well as other water projects to address the same in the first phase. We shall then focus on solar and piping to pump the water to the households so that they can use the filters to get clean water” said Mbae.

When complete the project will see 12,500 households in all the 30 villages of Kabazi Ward get the filters.

The filters are a big boost in the fight against rampant water-borne diseases in the area.
